Foster Creativity in the Workplace

Creativity is vital in many different workplaces. It’s the driving force for new products, innovations, services and even new business ideas. Yet, many companies condemn creativity without realizing it. Here are some solutions to keep creativity alive in your workplace.
1. Don’t be a robot
Many people discourage creativity by not taking on new and different projects. Saying yes to a new project will force you to step outside your comfort zone and perhaps you’ll come up with more imaginative ways to manage the project.
2. Be free little ones!
Another good way to kill creativity is too many restrictions on employee freedom. If employees are forced to stay in the same cubicle all day, it gets harder to think outside the box. Take some time to break free and go outside or engage in another activity. Even a few minutes away from the desk can get your creative juices flowing.
3. If creativity falls in the woods and no one’s around to hear it, will it make a sound?
Sometimes creativity is there, but the idea never reaches the employers’ ears. Don’t knock down a n idea from the get-go. Encourage your employees to speak up and offer their creative thoughts.
4. More feedback please
If employees aren’t provided any feedback on their creative ideas, they may be discouraged from presenting ideas in the future. Providing feedback will promote further creative thoughts in the office.
5. Demanding Immediate Returns
Creativity takes time, and telling someone they have a short deadline to come up with a creative idea can be challenging for them and counterproductive for the company. Allow time for the creative process to unfold.
The no.4 is badly needed especially by the Gen Y employees, they want to hear more feedback and inputs from their leaders in order for them to be more productive and more engage.
