New Year’s Resolutions, PR Style
Jan 3rd, 2013 by TVG Staff
As we ring in 2013 and reflect on the passing year, it’s a great time to re-evaluate how we connect with one another. In the PR world, we’re often bombarded with new technologies, digital apps and social networking platforms, which each bring a unique set of challenges. However, we can take these challenges in stride by sticking to some New Year’s Resolutions, PR Style.
First, stay on top of trends in social and digital media by reading the latest social/ digital media blogs and news at least once a month. If you commit to staying on top of new trends, you will likely stay one step ahead of the competition. Some of these platforms will not take off, but others may be the next big thing in 2013.
Next, try to pick up the phone a little more than you did last year. With email constantly at our fingertips, sometimes we forget that the core of public relations is personal relationships. Talking to a reporter often yields better results than just sending them an email. So, make a promise to pick up the phone and give your email account a rest.
Also, make sure to network as much as you can. There are countless networking events each week where public relations professionals can showcase their skills. These events are a great place to meet new people, introduce yourself to potential clients, learn more about industry trends and check in with current or previous clients. Try to attend one of these events every few months.
Finally, there are endless resolutions that PR professionals can commit to this year, but the key is to make a resolution that is tailored specifically to you. We all know areas where we can improve in our professional lives. So, figure out where you can step up your game, and make a commitment for 2013.
