Drink Wine for a Cause

Drink Wine for a Cause

By Andy Likes, TVG Vice President

Since The Vandiver Group was founded more than 23 years ago, we’ve been proud of how much we’ve given back to the communities where we live, work and play. Volunteering is encouraged for every employee, at every level of the company. Our team is especially encouraged to sit on community boards, and over time TVG has donated more than one million dollars in pro bono work to local and regional charities, nonprofits and other organizations. We are also proud sponsors of the United Way. This year, to celebrate 100% participation in our firm’s United Way pledge drive, we all picked an organization and volunteered for a day of community service on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

I chose to spend my day volunteering for Emmaus Homes, a TVG client and local organization that helps adults with developmental disabilities. Over the years, Emmaus Homes has had many successful fundraisers including the Taste of Home Cooking School, Open Your Heart Through Art, and Duckfest. I was able to help with their newest fundraiser, Emmaus Wine. The program is simple: drink wine, support your community. Every bottle sold goes to help fund programs at Emmaus Homes. Each box holds two bottles of wine and sells for $35. A bargain at the store, but even better when you know the proceeds go to charity! I spent several hours on MLK day turning four cases of wine into twin pack boxes, including wrapping the bottles and applying the logos and wine bottle tags. It took some time, but the effort was worth it.

Through the great team at Emmaus Homes, I have been able to meet countless clients who benefit every day from various Emmaus programs—and fundraisers like this one help make those programs possible. That makes the entire volunteer process even more worthwhile. I encourage you to put together a volunteer program at your office. If TVG can help, don’t hesitate to reach out to us by phone, social media or online and we’ll show you have we’ve been able to make a difference.
